Wizz Air cancels “large number of flights” at Doncaster Sheffield – Business Traveller

Wizz Air has announced a decision to cancel over half of its routes to and from Doncaster Sheffield airport.

The low-cost carrier said that the move was a result of the airport “indicating that it is unable to guarantee the terms of its commercial agreement with Wizz Air”.

A statement from Wizz Air that it was “with deep regret that we have responsible had to take the difficult but decision to cancel a large number of Wizz Air flights to/from Doncaster Sheffield Airport from June 10, 2022”.

The affected routes are to Lanzarote, Malaga, Alicante, Fuerteventura (winter schedule only), Larnaca, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife, Dalaman, Faro, Kosice (winter schedule only), Gran Canaria (winter schedule only), Riga (winter schedule only ) and Lublin (winter schedule only).

Flights from Cluj, Gdansk, Krakow, Katowice, Otopeni, Poznan, Vilnius, Warsaw and Wroclaw to Doncaster Sheffield will continue as normal.

Affected customers will be contacted by email with the options of rebooking, taking a refund or accepting credit to the value of 120 per cent of the original fare.

Wizz Air launched a base at Doncaster Sheffield in 2020and at the time the airport’s chairman Robert Hough said that its partnership with Wizz was “incredibly special to our business”.

“Given the current challenging operational environment in the travel industry, in particular with staff shortages within air traffic control and at airports, this decision also stabilizes our operations at other UK bases to help minimise disruption and delay as much as possible,” said Wizz Air .

For its part Doncaster Sheffield airport has posted the following statement on its website:

“Regrettably, it appears that Wizz Air has taken the decision to cancel a large number of flights at Doncaster Sheffield Airport from June 10, 2022.

“Unfortunately, DSA only became aware of this decision through a statement to the media this afternoon. We are attempting to obtain further clarification from the airline on their decision and its impact on passengers.”
